Jericho, sun and all good things!
05. February 2012

Hi everyone!

Time has been running since last blog, and it’s only 11 days left till we’ll be back to the beloved GUS. We’ll try to give you an update on what has been happening over here these last few weeks.

We have kept on working with Kids Club and Al Kammar here in town, and we get to know the kids more and more. We have realized that none of them are going to be rock stars or English professors during our six weeks, but it’s fun to get to know them more and see some progress in what they are learning. We have also started to work in another place, called Living Stones. That is a student café in Bir Zeit, run by PBS which is opened on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5 – 10pm. We had two days there last week, and this week Jonas will be there all opening days, and Junior + Bruno will come on Wednesday to join, after their trip to North, where they are going to see Nazareth, Lake of Galilee and some more cool stuff.

We are no longer living on our own in the PSB house. The couple Odeh Madanat and Maha Madanat are spending couple of months here in the House. So we are enjoying having delicious Arabic food. We had a great time last Saturday with the Madanasts and the family of the couple that looks after the house in Jericho, Samiah and Young.

We’ve also had two amazing mountain trips. One of them were to the Mount of Temptation, where Jonas and Bruno stayed overnight with our cable-car guarding friend. We were talking with him until 3am, before we lied down on the floor of the restaurant and slept some beautiful 2h! We’ve also been to Masada, with our menTOR. That’s ruins from an old city, on top of a steep mountain! Really fascinating place, you should all google it, read some story and look at some pictures!

Today (Sunday 5th Feb.) Jonas met a group of Norwegians here in Jericho. A lot of them were from Normisjon, so we had arranged to meet. He had lunch with them and got some Norwegian chocolate, the famous “melkesjokolade”.  “Im the only Norwegian speaking in our house, so it was nice to talk Norwegian for a while, and meet people from back home. I even met a missionary couple that I knew from my stay in Mali last winter. Tiny little world we live in!” Says Jonas

We’ve been really thinking and touched by the whole situation between Palestinians and Israelis. It breaks our heart just to see how bad it goes, but we pray hard and with hope the reconciliation will come through the message of the cross some day. We cannot talk about Jesus openly over here even in the PBS meeting that happens every Saturday. Few times we could in a careful way and special opportunities spread the good news.

We would really appreciate if you could join us in our prayers, here go our prayer requests

·         Pray for the Christians that are so few in Jericho;

·         Pray for the majority of Muslins that they might know Jesus;

·         Pray for the Livings Stone Student café in BirZeit;

·         Pray that PBS might have a fruitful ministry in the West Bank;

·         Pray for us as we have our last week in Jericho, it’s hard to say good bye, even more when children ask whether we would return some day.

Thank you very much join your support and precious prayer during our time here.

God bless,

Bruno, Jonas & Etelney Júnior

Jericho

20. January 2012

Hey everyone!

The lowest & oldest city on earth, full of famous sights and next to the famous Dead Sea. We are in Jericho!

Jericho is a nice place, and after some meetings and planning, we’ve started working here. We are working at three different places. Those are Kids Club, Al Kamar Society and The Zaccheous House. Zaccheous House, the place where we live, is run by the Palestinian Bible Society. Kids and youngsters come over there two times a week to play and hang out.
In all those places we were either teaching English, guitar or piano and will start doing some sports. It’s lovely to be able to hang out and get to know the locals.

One evening, we were bored, so we all decided we wanted to go to the Mount of Temptation (the place where Jesus was tempted). It is about 6-7km from our house, and mostly uphill, then eventually we reached the plateau where there is a cable car and a monastery today. We didn’t get the cable car but climbed. We were, then, stopped by a guard, and we were a bit afraid we had to go back down, but he turned out to be a great guy! He showed us around the cable car area, and gave us fruits, Arabic coffee and water! Beautiful view! Nice conversation. We mean to visit him more times.

Most of population in Jericho is Muslim, they are very friendly and love football.

On de 20 and 21 we are attending a weekend away. It’s an evangelistic camp for youngsters. Please pray for this event and also for your remaining time back to Jericho, that we really serve local people working with the Bible Society.

With love and blessings,

Bruno, Jonas and Junior

Hi everyone!

We arrived yesterday, and are now in Jerusalem.

Today we went to the Holocaust museum here in Jerusalem, and then to Bethlehem in the afternoon!

This is a short post, just to tell everyone that we are safe and that we have started our adventure!
